How is LYWLAW Different?

The Law Office of Laurie Y. Wu provides the type of client-care that each client should expect and deserve. We provide Competence, Convenience, Connectivity and Compassion.

COMPETENCE
Since Laurie was admitted into practice, she has concentrated on family-based immigration cases for fiancées, spouses, children, parents and siblings. Immigration laws are generally confusing, inconsistent and constantly evolving. We keep abreast of the changing laws, regulations and procedures and immediately notify clients if any changes impact them. If we are unfamiliar with certain issues, we disclose this to clients (both prospective and current clients) to allow them the opportunity to seek other counsel or continue with our services.

We evaluate each family’s needs and desires, identify potential issues and present the options that are most likely able to achieve their desired results. Often, families are unaware of the opportunities and limitations in their given circumstance until issues arise or it is too late to act. These opportunities and limitations usually involve children. A missed opportunity can result in years of wait time. Therefore, we inquire into various facets of the family dynamic and into the background of family members.

Clients must understand that there are countless factors that influence the outcome of each case and cases with similar circumstances may not result in the same outcome. Immigration agencies and officials have a certain amount of discretion which can result in inconsistent and unpredictable outcomes. We will use our knowledge of the law and our best efforts to achieve the desired outcomes. However, we cannot make any guarantees.

CONVENIENCE
Since immigration law is based on federal law, applicants may hire immigration attorneys who are in good standing and licensed in any of the fifty states. Given that our clients are located throughout the United States and overseas, we use our best efforts to accommodate our clients’ schedules and preferred method of communication. In addition to our normal business hours, Laurie is available for consultation during evenings, holidays and weekends so long as there is some advance notice. In-person meetings are not required. We can efficiently and successfully communicate via telephone, Skype, email, fax and/or postal mail.

CONNECTIVITY
We are readily reachable by phone and email. Even during most weekends and holidays, we return calls and respond to emails the same day or following day. We are constantly monitoring our email and phone messages, so any urgent matter will get our immediate attention.

We provide clients with an engaging experience. Clients have direct and ongoing contact with Laurie until the completion of their case. Clients are not passed along to assistants. From the onset of the case, we lay out a timeline with each milestone. After the passing of a milestone, we remind clients of the next milestone. Also, we frequently provide updates to clients and keep them aware of any changes that affect their case.

COMPASSION
While the attributes listed above are necessary to the client-attorney relationship, we feel that compassion is equally important. Because most of our cases are family-related and our relationship spans over months and years, establishing a personal bond with our clients helps ease their anxieties and boosts their confidence. When we evaluate our clients’ needs, we’re not only evaluating their legal needs, but also their emotional needs and tailoring our service to best suit their needs. Some clients are not tech-savvy and it’s best for them to communicate by telephone and postal mail. Some clients are not fluent in English and we’ll communicate with a combination of English and their native language. Some clients are not well-organized and we’ll spend more time explaining certain procedures, reviewing the necessary documents and providing them with local assistant in their home country. We not only take into consideration the legal aspects of the case, but also the personal aspects that can affect the outcome and experience for the client.

As we put forth our best efforts, in return, we ask our clients to be honest and forthcoming and keep us updated on any significant changes on their end. With mutual cooperation, we can turn a daunting experience into a positive one.
